Sharda Khan
Hi, my name is Sharda Khan. I have been living with severe to excruciating pain since September 2003. Since then I have been diagnosed with Advance Degenerative Disc Disease in every section of my Cervical Spine, Upper Thoracic and some in my Lumbar area. I have diagnosed with Osteo-Arthritis in both knees and left collarbone and Sero-Negative Arthritis. I have Tendonitis in fingers, elbows and other areas. I have Bursitis in left rotator cuff area. On top of this, I have Fibromyalgia, Chronic Pain, Chronic Fatigue, Sleep Apnea, Type II Diabetes with Insulin Dependency, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, and being Overweight among other issues. Every doctor tells me I need to lose weight but they don’t tell me how to do it. Because of pain, I cannot walk very much and haven’t been able to lose the weight. It’s a vicious roller coaster cycle I cannot control. March of Dimes approved and paid for home and vehicle renovations, but I still owe about $1,900 (money I don’t have) to the Vendor who provided the equipment because March of Dimes didn’t fully cover renovations. I have great pain and difficulty opening and closing the trunk door of the van to access the wheelchair as I have appointments every day for which I drive myself to. My husband can’t accompany me as he works to pay the bills. I need money (another $2,500 - $3,000 project) to install an automatic trunk door to the van for easy wheelchair access. ADP approved 75% of my electric wheelchair and my husband’s company’s insurance paid 90% of the remaining 25%. I still had to pay $260 out of pocket. I desperately need bathroom renovations because I have a difficult time getting in and out of the shower. As well, I need an electric wheelchair for upstairs. My husband is not always home to assist me with showering so I have to do it alone. I am on CPP Disability and I don’t have the money to change my bathtub to a step-in shower nor do I have money for an electric wheelchair for upstairs for when I get off the stair lift. I require carpel tunnel surgery for both hands but my right is worse. My ankles are swollen all the time. I cannot fit into any of my shoes and I am worried about the winter. I wear clogs right now. I cannot go on any arthritis medications because my liver enzymes are highly to critically abnormal (slowly coming down) for the last 3 months because of antibiotics for skin‑positive TB which was tested so that the rheumatologist could switch my Arthritis meds from Humira to Enbrel. After all of this and although my stress level is high, my humour and upbeatness tries to overcome all. Smiling and being happy is what it is all about!!! Have more to say but words are numbered!
